MacroPair is information, not medicine

MacroPair — the app, this website and the free calculators — provides general wellness information and mathematical estimates. It is not medical advice, medical care, nutrition therapy, or a diagnostic or treatment tool, and using it does not create a clinician-patient relationship with us. Content in the Service has not been evaluated by the FDA and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Estimates are estimates

Calorie targets, expenditure figures, macro splits and forecasts are statistical estimates in kcal and g, built from the data you log and from population research. They carry real uncertainty — food databases contain errors, printed labels are legally allowed rounding, and individual metabolism varies. Treat every number as guidance to test against how you actually feel and progress, not as a prescription.

Talk to a professional first when it matters

Consult a physician or registered dietitian before changing your diet or exercise habits if any of these apply — you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing; you are under 18; you have or are managing a medical condition, including diabetes, cardiovascular, kidney or thyroid conditions; you take medication whose dosing interacts with diet; or a clinician has previously told you to follow a specific diet. If guidance in MacroPair ever conflicts with your clinician's, follow your clinician.

A serious word about disordered eating

Calorie tracking is a tool, and like any tool it is wrong for some situations. If tracking food or weight triggers anxiety, compulsion, restriction or shame — or if you have a history of an eating disorder — please do not use MacroPair, and consider talking with someone qualified. In the United States you can contact the National Alliance for Eating Disorders at allianceforeatingdisorders.com or call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Elsewhere, your national health service can point you to local resources. Your worth was never a number in an app.

Emergencies

Never use MacroPair to assess an urgent health problem. If you think you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency number immediately.
